Gravure Print of Flexible Package

Gravure print is a very important printing process in production of flexible package. With rich experiences, we share the knowledge of gravure print as below:

What is gravure print?

The patterns in artworks are not printed on plastic film directly easily. They will be carved on cylinders firstly. Than the printing cylinders will be set on printing machine, the ink will be printed on plastic film by the cylinders.

What is printing cylinder?

Printing cylinder is made by copper and is finished with chroming for protecting the carved patterns. For each color in artwork, one cylinder will be made. For example, if there are 6 colors in your artwork, we have to make 6 cylinders.

In gravure print, the cylinder cost is charged for just one time since the cylinders can be used for more than 2 years. So if you make the totally same pouches next time, you will not need to pay the cylinder cost once again.

How many colors can be printed on pouch?

For some old printing machine, it can print just 4 colors. And for new machine, it can print 8-10 colors. Thumb Packaging have 10 colors gravure printing machine which can print pretty high quality on plastic film.

How to create your custom package?

Most startup food companies need to create custom package before coming into the market. With rich experience of custom flexible package, we share as following:

1. Volume

Firstly make a decision about the capacity of each individual package, like 500g coffee per bag or 200g nuts per can.

2. Container

Choose the package container according to the capacity and consumers’ habits, such as plastic bags, paper bags, aluminum can, glass can, plastic can, paper box etc.

3.Shape and size of container

Choose a good shape of the container such as stand up pouch or flat pouch, and then test the size of pouch with some samples.

4.Material of package

Choose the material of the container. Different material can affect the appearance of package, price of package and especially the shelf life of products.

5.Custom printing

It is very important. Find a good designer to design your print artwork.

6.Details

Make sure the details of the container such as zipper and handle with the manufacturer.

How to create your stand up pouch?

Stand up pouches are used widely used in food package industry.

With perfect shape and bottom gusset, it is very good to show products on shelf.

People can carry the pouches very conveniently and store them in home.

So it is important to create the stand up pouch of your own custom print.

With rich experience of custom flexible package, Thumb Packaging share as following:

1. Volume

Firstly make a decision about the volume of each individual package, like 1 lb coffee per pouch or 10 oz cookies per pouch.

2. Style of stand up pouch

There are 4 main styles of stand up pouch according to the styles of the bottom gusset:

Doyan style pouch, K style pouch, plow style pouch and flat bottom pouch.

3. Size

Test the size of pouch with some samples according to the volume.

4. Material

Choose the material of the pouch. Different material can affect the appearance of package, price of package and

especially the shelf life of products. The materials are used for food package include:

PET/PE, PET/Metallic PET/PE, PET/Aluminum/PE etc.

5. Custom printing

It is very important to build the concept of your own brand..Find a good designer to design your print artwork.
